Ben Nevis Training Hike #4

It’s getting even closer!!! Aaaaaaah!!!

Distance: 1.97-break for lunch-2.38 (4.35 total)
Time: 28m-break-40m (1h 8m total)
Average pace: 14:16m/km -break- 17:42m/km

The weather we had for this walk was amazing. I was feeling a bit crappy, but as soon as I felt the sun I cheered right up! Summer is coming. It’s even light when I get up for work now!

The walk was good, the first half was down hill and then flattened out, so it was easy enough to manage. The we got to a pub and decided as we needed to stop for a wee break we may as well stop and have lunch too. After we had eaten big lunches, we then walked back along a different route…of course as the way to the pub was downhill, the way back was uphill. We ended up walking along a small trail that was quite steep going uphill. It felt like it was going to never end! I struggled with the hill, I had to concentrate on breathing (I have asthma) and keeping my legs moving. I kept my focus on the ground in front of me and avoided looking up at what was left to climb-I would have become discouraged otherwise. After that hill I am worried about BN. It’s all going to be one giant hill!! I am going to die.

I’ve made a Ben Nevis countdown schedule, and put down gym days and whatnot. Expect lots of workout posts in the next 2 weeks. If I don’t go, feel free to hurl abuse at me. Not really. I would get upset. I beat myself up enough for not going to the gym…

Ben Nevis Training Hike #3

We were meant to be going to a place called Wye for our walk on Sunday, however we ended up in a different place called Appledore…I won’t bore you with the details on how that occurred but basically there were too many postcodes in a group message…

This walk was not difficult like the previous ones. We basically walked alongside a canal for a while and then came back the way we came. It was a nice walk, but totally different from wading through mud on previous walks. Speaking of mud, I may have something pretty muddy in the works for after BN. Very excited.

Ben Nevis is getting ever closer and I’m feeling anxious about it. I need to gym more, but I haven’t had the energy to recently… so bad. I feel determined to do it, but I just haven’t been focused on getting myself ready to get up there. This clearly needs to change, so I’m going to get serious about going to the gym and sticking to a gym plan.

Ben Nevis Training Hike #2

On Sunday the BN crew went for another hike, through a lovely rural country park. I have an admission to make. There may have been an incident in training hike #1 in which I slipped in the mud. And just as H said the first one to fall buys lunch, and A calls H to tell him something, lo and behold it happens again. Butt splat. 2-0 to mud. I can’t even pretend it didn’t happen like last week, everyone saw.

We did stop often to take pictures, so we were probably walking faster than that overall.

This course was hilly, muddy, and beautiful to look at. It goes through a golf course and past a roman villa, and a castle. Albeit a small Castle but there we go. I found this walk difficult because it was hilly-which doesn’t bode well for Ben Nevis. The one before was hilly too, but I’m inclined to think this was hillier. Incline. Get it? I need to get out more. And work harder at the gym. I used my hydration pack for the first time, I did wash it out before using it, but the water still tasted like plasticy chlorine. More cleaning is to be done I think.

Less than 4 weeks until we go, and I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit scared. Daunted. But also looking forward to it. Urg.

On a side note, clean eating is going well so far. Majorly craved ice cream yesterday, but didn’t have any.
