Running Fail

I went running today, on week 2 of the couch to 5k.

Felt really good as the weather had just brightened up when I left my flat. First interval went well, felt really natural and slipped into the jogging easily. For the last 30 seconds I was struggling, I have a bit of a phlegmy chest at the moment so breathing was hard and my ankles were not very happy. I was wearing my ankle support, but my other ankle felt like it was straining. by the second interval both of my ankles were sore and I was jogging unbelievably slowly to catch my breath.

I got to the half way point, and I had to stop. My ankles were sore, and my breathing was awful. Once I had rested, rehydrated and recovered a bit, I walked the rest of the way back. I walked with a brisk pace and went a slightly longer route back to compensate for not jogging for any of it.

Maybe I’ll drop back to week 1 of the C25K programme the next time I go out to run.

weigh day monday

Start Weight: 205 pounds

Last weeks weight: 207

Current weight: 207

Progress from last week: no change

Overall Progress: +2 pounds

maintained this week. I had a feeling that I wasn’t going to be losing anything. But I didn’t put on, which is the good news!

Aiming to lose 2 pounds again this week…

This week I’m hoping to start up running again, my chest infection is slowly going away so I’m hoping  if I start slow and take my asthma pump with me I should be OK.

Have a bit of a stressful week ahead of me, I’m likely to comfort eat. I’m going to have to exercise my willpower and not eat bad foods. fruit and veg FTW!

Start Weight: 205 pounds

Last weeks weight: 208

Current weight: 207

Progress from last week: –1 pound

Overall Progress: +2 pounds

didn’t hit my target of a loss of 2 pounds this week, but I still lost a pound which is good news. I’ve been really ill (cough, cold, sore throat) the past couple of days, so I’m suprised I haven’t put on because I eat too much when I don’t feel well.

meant to be working out with my fitness friend today, but I think I  might have to bail because of being ill. I’ll see how crap I feel later on.

target for this week: lose the two pounds to get me back to my original start weight! exciting.

Monday=weigh day

Start Weight: 205 pounds

Current weight: 210

Overall Progress: +5 pounds        😦 booo

Maintained from last week. Better than putting on I suppose! I’m hoping to start running again this week, but at the moment I feel like death. I’m hoping it will clear up later this afternoon and I can run. Fingers crossed!

I really want to shift some weight off this week. I need to get into the habit of exercising while in my flat. Just of an evening, do some sit-ups or use my resistance body toner. (thing you put between your legs/arms and squeeze)

This week I want to lose 2 pounds.

new week, new run.

The same run really, just getting back into it after not going for a week.

Reaally wasn’t feeling it, but once we started I got into it a bit more and it felt nice to be out. I didn’t exactly enjoy it, but I knew I needed to do it. running with purpose.

Started out ok, other than my shins hurting, which usually happens. I was thinking ‘huh….this isn’t so bad, maybe its time to go to the next one up..’ until the third interval run when my chest felt like I had a belt around my waist stopping my diaphragm from working! Pushed through it though, with some encouragement.

I felt like we were running slower than normal, but we finished the run further on that we have before, though its possible we were just walking faster.

Debating whether or not to up the run to the week 2 podcast… it says to do each one three times before moving up to the next week, and I’ve done it 4 times now, but I still really struggle with the last few runs. iii dont know what to dooo.

maybe do one more of week one, then try the week 2? I guess I’m always going to be worried about starting the next one until I actually do…

p.s. my cold is finally starting to go away!!

RUN! …No really, run.

Just got back from running. really struggled with this one, especially starting out. I think my cold is still lurking in my chest, and I didn’t have my asthma pump. equals struggle and much coughing. I’m glad we went out though. also glad that it wasn’t raining any more!

Pushed myself (actually Miss Motivator pushed me, and I complied) on the last run, going fast than before, and instead of stopping early like I did on my first run, slowed the pace down instead. I guess you could call that progress…of the slow and painful kind…that makes you feel sick afterwards…

I’m finding it difficult to work out what to wear when running, especially when the weather is cold, as I don’t want to keep getting sick. today I had a hoodie on the whole time, and got very warm. I kept it on because I didn’t want to cool down too much when switching to and from walking. Hard decisions….maybe run in a gilet (bodywarmer) when its really cold?  or is there a fancy fabric that can keep you warm and cool at the same time?

anywaaaay, Ive done week 1 of the podcast 3 times, so I am now allowed to graduate to the week 2 podcast, but I really don’t feel that would be a good idea just yet. maybe one or two more of the week 1, then move up. I’m worried about pushing myself too soon, getting injured, and losing all motivation…

heehees, the title feels kind of like the title of a comic strip panel…

Reflecting on my run made me think more about how much of an achievement that I actually ran is. outside. in front of other people. I was also thinking that if my friend hadn’t come with me, would I have been able to do it? Probably not, or I would have once and then given up, again. We have plans to go again, which is good because it will make me feel bad if I bail out of doing it. She makes a good Mr. Motivator 😉

as much as this is a personal achievement, I’m still overweight, unfit, and really awful compared to some of my friends who run or do other exercise regularly. Or those who have lost weight through eating plans. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Feel bad for making me feel bad!

I’m joking of course, your achievements are amazing!!

In the earlier post I said I felt sick, that passed quite quickly and then I was really hungry, hungrier than normal in the mornings. my other symptoms have passed, leaving behind a slightly sore chest from the cold, and achey legs which I’m sure will be 100 times worse in the morning.

I feel Invigorated, and awake which is a nice change from my usual sleepy mornings! I’m going to have to try and remember that it will feel good after running, some self-motivation . . . I CAN do this! With a little help from my friends…
