Deadlift? Dead legs…

Recently I was at the gym, following the weight lifting programme I’ve mentioned before. One of the exercises is a straight leg deadlift. I’ve been careful the past few weeks not to push myself too hard or lift too heavy, so I could make sure my form was correct & avoid any injuries. This time I decided to push myself.

I picked up a 20kg barbell, and found that too easy and could easily finish my reps. So I picked up another one, which turned out to be 35kg. This was a perfect weight – heavy and challenging. It’s been a long time since I lifted anything that heavy! I really enjoyed it. I felt like an absolute boss after finishing my sets! The next couple of days, however, I was very stiff and achy! I may have overdone it a little bit…

I’vibram-bikila-evove also started to do Zombies, Run! again – it’s a running app that simulates zombie chases and has a story to listen to as you run. It’s a lot of fun, and I recommend giving it a go!

Speaking of running, I’ve been looking into barefoot running recently. I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and decided to invest in a pair of Vibram Fivefingers. For those who aren’t familiar with these trainers, they’re running shoes that simulate a barefoot feeling, while protecting your soles! Picture on the left!

Once they arrive, I’ll start out slowly and build up some foot strength – and post some updates.

April…Oh. May Actually…

I have not been keeping up with posting at all this year have I? Ah well. These things happen.

I’ve been thinking a lot about weightlifting recently, alongside swimming & Pilates. I still enjoy Spin, however my knees and ankles are getting stiff and painful from doing it so I think I need to decrease the frequency I do that, and replace it with swimming which is much easier on the joints!

I have my wedding to think about now, so I really need to get serious with my eating habits and stop prancing around with junk food. The exercise part I can do, I just really struggle with food!!

I did eat loads of melon today though, which is an improvement on cookies. I’ll get there. I need to practice resisting urges & I have some techniques I can do to help with that, just need to keep practising resistance.

Went to the gym yesterday, and did day 2 of a programme I got from bodybuilding.com. They have printable logs to fill out as you go, which are extremely handy! I’m going to crack on with this and hopefully see a pleasing result by the end of the month (it’s a 12 week plan but will be tracking and measuring monthly).

Slimming World – Week 26

Hallooooo,

Another week has gone and Christmas is getting closer. With the holiday season comes many, many temptations. Some of which I have to admit I did indulge in…

Last week’s Weigh In: 17st 4.5lb (242.5 pounds)

This week: 17st 4lb (242 pounds)

An unexpected loss of 0.5 pounds. Excellent! I’m glad I’m heading in that direction, and I’m feeling positive about the coming week. I’ve printed a plan to follow and have been shopping to get the foods required for it, so far so good. I just need to avoid the holiday cheer until at Friday! I have my work Christmas party which I plan to enjoy on Friday evening…so I’ll be weighing in early next week too.

Goal for Next week: 17st 0lbs (238 pounds)

Weigh in Wednesday

Well, it’s been an eventful week. I’ve been in hospital with appendicitis and had surgery to take out my appendix.

This, of course, has completely blown any idea of running my Race for Life 5k out of the water 😦 booo. I could still walk it if I’m recovered enough…I’ll have to have a think about that.

Anyhow, here’s this week’s weigh in:

Last weigh in: 237.6 pounds
Today’s weigh in: 230 pounds
To Lose for June Goal: 31 pounds

Well…I was not expecting to lose so much this week. At all. That blindsided me! Must have been my wacky appetite in the hospital (also, not being allowed to eat before surgery, which kept getting delayed!). I’m also hoping this is all of the bloated-pastry-belly from France disappearing!

Exercise-wise I’m going to be very limited this week, until I heal up I won’t be able to do much at all. I’ll have to really watch my eating to compensate!

Goals for next week
Weight: 223 pounds
Exercise: Go on 2 short walks

Weigh in Wednesday

Morning one and all. Another Wednesday, the last Wednesday of October!

Last Week: 225 Pounds

Today: 225 pounds

I didn’t hit the weight goal I set last week – 223 pounds – but at the moment I’m just feeling lucky that I didn’t put on weight! I’ve eaten really badly the past couple of days, so I’m grateful that hasn’t shown in my weight. Though it will probably appear in time for next week…My theory is, if I get enough exercise in to combat the extra cals I’ve consumed it should even out.

Food

As I mentioned above, I’ve eaten unhealthily the past couple of days. I need to restrict myself this week to counteract that. I need to up my water intake again, It’s dropped far below what it should be and has been previously.

Exercise

As above, I’m attempting to overcompensate on the exercise front. which means walking every lunch break, running, and gym. If I can fit it in!

Sleep

I’ve had a couple of days off to house-sit while the parentals are on holiday, and I’ve been getting a decent amount of sleep! I feel much better for it.

Goals for Next Week:

Weight: 224 pounds (if I can manage it – though I would also be okay with maintaining at 225)

Food: Eat within my calorie limit all week

Exercise: Burn off the overeating this week – 2500 Calories to be obliterated

Sleep: Get early nights as much as possible this week – aim for 4 out of 7!

Hope everyone has a good week!

Friday = Leg Day

O U C H

Leg day happened, courtesy of Scott dragging my sorry ass to the gym. Which is good…But also painful. So. Many. Lunges.

Here’s what I did:

Squats

Warm up – 8 x bar only (20kgs – all weights below will include this 20kg)

6 x 40kg

8 x 50 kg

8 x 60kg – 3 sets

Walking Lunge

5kg each hand x 20 – 3 sets

Treadmill Walking Lunge

50 x 2 sets

Leg Extension

20 x 35kg – 3 sets

Those lunges just about killed me. Stairs are not my friend at the moment…

I also did day 1 of my 30 Day Challenge when I got home – the squats were so difficult!
